Multimedia is made of many different types of smaller media such as text, graphics, video, audio, and more. It is also defined as combining all types of media that are older and newer.
Text amounts for the majority of media. Text is used in so many different aspects including providing instruction, providing a narrative. enabling hierarchy, and text allows things to be discoverable.
Graphics help to aid text. Graphics includes photographs, illustrations, clip-art, and any other image that is a still image.
Video includes any type of picture with motion, which could include TV, movies, short video formats, and gifs. There are so many options to shoot video now. You can use a professional camera, phone, or camcorder.
Audio is another part of multimedia. Audio can be a part of another type of media or can even be its own separate thing. Audio can include speaking, music, and sound effects.
Animations can be either 2D or 3D. A 2D animation can only move along two axis, whereas a 3D animation can move on three axis. Animations can be used on websites, games, and apps.
The World Wide Web (www) was created in 1990. There are three generations of the web. The first generation is from 1991-2001, the second generation started in 2001, and the third generation of the web is considered the Semantic Web.
There are seven types of old media. Those types are books, newspapers, magazines, film, sound recordings, radio, and television. Old media is meant to be able to reach large audiences. Mass media should also reach as many people as possible all at the same time.
New media began in the 1980's along with the computer. Most forms of old media could now be found digitally. The five principles of new media are numerical representation, structural modularity, automation, variability, and cultural transcoding.
